What is the purpose of NPi? Why do we need to do this work?

To build an online network of ideas and solutions connecting leaders and organizations to one another.

To change the conversation about poverty. What might change if we begin thinking about anti-poverty work as prosperity work? thinking of community problems as opportunities?

To share knowledge, discuss successes and challenges, and promote collective problem-solving.

To promote holistic, long-term solutions to citizens, funders, policymakers, and elected officials.To learn from leaders with a wealth of knowledge to share as we seek to create a better world.

Who benefits from NPi?

Leaders looking to work collaboratively rather than competitively

Community leaders and organizations gain access to a growing network of organizations doing like-minded or complimentary work on NPi’s website. Organizations who do interviews with NPi can also use NPi’s print and web materials to increase funding and visibility for themselves.

Funders interested in learning more about especially effective programs

Grant-makers, foundations, and individual donors interested in giving to organizations that tackle poverty, community development, and public health can use NPi materials to identify those organizations and programs they feel are most effective, sustainable, and therefore deserving of their funds.

Policymakers/elected officials wanting to learn more about the community’s needs

Elected officials and policymakers can learn from NPi stories and use them as a direct line of communication with the communities they serve in order to showcase successes taking place or highlight gaps in service that could be met by a change in laws or policy.

People and communities in need of improved resources or support

Lastly, the general public will gain awareness of and access to social services offered in their communities as well as learn about local opportunities for community service.

What kind of stories is NPi interested in telling?

NPi tells stories about particularly effective work being done (primarily at the local level) that others can learn from, work that addresses poverty’s root causes rather than treats its symptoms. NPi interviews/videos/podcasts clearly demonstrate the importance of utilizing holistic treatment models when serving individuals and communities living in poverty or in need of improved resources or support. At NPi, we also conceive of poverty in its broadest sense. Poverty may mean a lack of wealth, and it may also mean a lack of opportunity or other non-monetary resources and forms of support.

What are NPi’s community dialogues all about?

As a collector of stories within the community, NPi organizes and hosts community dialogues. These are an opportunity for leaders of various backgrounds to discuss lessons learned, current projects, and potential collaborations.
