The New PROSPERiTY Initiative Brings Community Leaders Together For Panel Discussion On Social Change
BOSTON, MA, JANUARY 9, 2009 – The New PROSPERiTY Initiative (NPi) will be holding a speakers panel and community dialogue on February 5, 2009 during which Boston area leaders will tell first-hand stories of community building and activism. The event, “Community Building in Boston: Leaders Share Their Stories,” is free and open to the public and will take place in the Boston Public Library’s Mezzanine Room from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The panel will feature three very engaging speakers: Joel Schwartz, Director of Moving from Debt to Assets, a groundbreaking financial empowerment program associated with the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization; Lakenya Johnson, founder of F.A.M.I.L.Y. Movement, an organization that seeks to stabilize young moms, women, and men in homeless shelters by encouraging self-worth and family values; and Eve Sullivan, co-founder of Parents Forum, an organization that brings together groups of parents and others to practice effective communication skills in order to become more responsible and involved citizens.
About The New PROSPERiTY Initiative:
The New Prosperity Initiative is a Boston-based nonprofit organization that pairs storytelling with new media to publicize the efforts of people and organizations doing socially innovative work to end poverty and build prosperity. NPi stories take the shape of interviews, photo essays, videos, and pod-casts and will eventually be distributed in print and online at thenewprosperity.org. The purpose of NPi is to connect community leaders to one another and build a nation-wide network of ideas and solutions in order to bring the best models, strategies, and leadership qualities to the places that need them most.
We also host community conversations which bring together local leaders to discuss lessons learned as well as current projects. Our next two community conversations will be held at the Boston Public Library on February 5th, and May 7th.
At the core of NPi are its three founders: Jeanne Dasaro, Ed Gazarian, and Alexis Schroeder.
